Republican Mehmet Oz conceded to Democrat John Fetterman in Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race.
In a Nov. 9 statement released by his campaign, Oz said, “This morning I called John Fetterman and congratulated him. I wish him and his family all the best, both personally and as our next United States Senator.”
Fetterman sent out a tweet around 1 a.m. Wednesday, claiming victory. “It’s official. I will be the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. We bet on the people of Pennsylvania – and you didn’t let us down. And I won’t let you down. Thank you,” Fetterman’s tweet said.
Fetterman’s victory means the U.S. Senate seat will flip from Republican to Democrat. Fetterman will replace Republican Pat Toomey, who is retiring after serving two terms in the Senate.
According to AP estimates, as of 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 9, Fetterman has received 50.4% of the votes, with 93% of votes counted. Oz received approximately 47.2% of the votes, with Libertarian Erik Gerhardt receiving 1.4% of the votes.
