House Democrats announced Wednesday that Rep. Michael Zabel (D-163) will resign on March 16 amid allegations of sexual harassment.
In addition to an accusation made by a lobbyist, Rep. Abby Major (R-60) also alleged that Zabel behaved inappropriately towards her last November, placing his hands on her in a Harrisburg bar and following her after she left.
On Monday over a dozen House representatives, led by Rep. Kristin Marcell (R-178), sent a letter to Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton (D-191) calling on Zabel to resign.
“Knowing Rep. Zabel will not be serving in the halls of the Capitol is the only way women who have had to deal with the grotesque and repeated conduct from this serial harasser will be able to feel safe,” the letter said.
In a separate statement, Marcell said the Democratic House leadership “covered up these actions and remained silent on them until Rep. Zabel was finally caught.”
