Euthanasia, or doctor-assisted suicide, is already legal in nine U.S. states (plus the District of Columbia). And if recent referendums on abortion during the midterm elections are any indication of our culture’s infatuation with murder, more states will be added to that list in the near future. (“Every pro-life referendum went down in flames,” Kevin Swanson wrote in a Nov. 9 email. “The most critical vote occurred in Kentucky where voters rejected a pro-life amendment by a vote of 51.4% to 48.6%, following Kansas’s lead last summer.”)
In our rebellion against God and His Law-Word, our nation is committing mass suicide. As the Wisdom of God has said, “All those who hate me love death” (Proverbs 8:36). We cannot simply blame the political parties – the problem lies in the soul of America. We have cast God’s Law aside and embraced futility. The political landscape is merely a consequence of our sin, compromise, and vanity.
Meanwhile, in Canada, disturbing euthanasia trends continue apace. Reports indicate that over 10,000 people died via euthanasia in Canada in 2021. Even more alarming, Canada is poised to allow “mature minors” to receive “medical assistance in dying” (MAID) without parental permission. (It is unclear what constitutes a “mature” minor.)
If there is a point when North America begins to give the Third Reich a run for its money, we are getting close.
In the West, the term barbarian came to mean an uncivilized man or a savage. The beneficial effects of Christianity led to the rise of the West, and with it the elimination of the barbarous practices of pagan cultures – infanticide, parricide, human sacrifice, and the like.
But the West has now turned back to barbarism.
Human sacrifice via abortion was a relatively minor concern for Republican voters entering the Nov. 8 election. More important than the butchering of our posterity was the economy. GOP candidates, pundits, and voters alike avoided the abortion issue, at best simply labelling the Left’s position as extreme and then shifting attention to the economy. Such was the strategy to “get the vote.”
Don’t we understand that God’s judgment for the shedding of innocent blood has already destroyed our economy? May our money, and our political influence, perish with us if we care more about our retirement accounts than our young neighbors being slaughtered.
It should not surprise us when a civilization which murders babies (infanticide) will then turn to murdering the old folks (parricide). Without enough children to care for the elderly, euthanasia will be readily offered as a means to cut health care costs. The Baby Boomer generation will reap what it sowed.
There is no soundness in the flesh of America. Our iniquities have gone over our head and our wounds are foul and festering because of our foolishness. We are undone. There is one, and only one, solution. Repentance and faith. No Red Wave can wash away these sins. No political power grab can avert God’s judgment. The people need to turn to Christ and His Law-Word, and do so speedily. If not, we will be consigned to the dustbin of history, just like the barbarians who have gone before us.
