A manhunt is underway for a suspect in last night’s shooting rampage that occurred in a Lewiston, Maine, bowling alley that left at least 18 dead and 13 injured.
Robert Card, 40, is the prime suspect and is facing an arrest warrant for multiple counts of murder. Card is considered armed and dangerous, police said.
The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. Wednesday and “sent panicked bowlers scrambling behind pins, into corners and a back room when shots rang out,” AP News reports.
Card, a certified firearms instructor and a member of the U.S. army reserve, had previously made threats that he would carry out a shooting at a national guard facility.
Card’s vehicle was found abandoned at a boat launched on the Androscoggin River. Police are unsure if Card escaped into the woods or took a boat onto the water.
As the manhunt continues, Maine State Police have asked some state residents to “shelter in place.”
Lewiston Mayer Carl Sheline told ABC News that he is “heartbroken” for the city. “Lewiston is known for our strength and grit, and we will need both in the days to come,” he said.
