An investigation from WGAL has found that several Lancaster County residents are frustrated with the U.S. Postal Service’s handling of their mail service, including being charged for post office boxes which should be free.
Phil Boyer, of Brownstown, Lancaster County, told WGAL that he recently found out many of his neighbors were paying for post office boxes – something Boyer has never paid for, despite having a post office box.
Boyer cited a USPS policy that says no-fee post office box service is offered “to customers who do not receive any form of carrier delivery.” Many residents in Brownstown are ineligible for mailboxes at their residences, and need post office boxes if they want to receive mail via USPS.
Despite the policy, many residents in Brownstown have been paying for post office boxes for years.
According to WGAL, the postal service is reviewing the cases and will offer partial refunds to customers.
Residents in Adamstown are also experiencing a similar problem.
Jeremey Motter, of Adamstown, told WGAL that USPS home delivery is not an option and “we have to have the post office box.”
“If I’m forced to have a box, we shouldn’t have to pay for it because you’re forced to have it,” he told WGAL.
WGAL also highlighted the frustrations of a Maytown USPS customer who is unsatisfied with the postal service’s lack of concern and customer service.
Patrick McCart told WGAL that after paying for a post office box for years, he was finally able to get home delivery by using a Marietta address, but the process has been frustrating.
“The post office, in my opinion, they don’t care,” McCart told WGAL. “They want you to give up.”
