After under an hour of deliberation, a jury returned a guilty verdict for Jeremy J. Morant for drug delivery resulting in death and criminal conspiracy.
Morant, 31, of the 2600 block of Northfield Drive in East Petersburg, was found guilty after a three-day trial before Lancaster County Judge Jeffery Wright that concluded last Thursday.
Morant was charged with selling the victim fentanyl that caused her death on February 2, 2020, in a room at the Classic Inn on Lincoln Highway East, a press release from the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office said. Morant’s defense team argued that the victim could have received fentanyl from someone other than Morant.
“There’s no evidence that [the victim] received fentanyl from anyone but the defendant,” said First Assistant District Attorney Todd Brown, who prosecuted the case. “The defendant agreed to deliver fentanyl to [the victim] and ultimately that fentanyl killed her.”
Morant will remain in Lancaster County Prison as he awaits sentencing.
