A Lancaster city woman has been sentenced to four to 15 years in prison for causing a fatal collision on Route 30 in West Hempfield Township, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
Renee S. Emerick, 25, pled guilty to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, four counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, and related charges in Lancaster County Court in June 2022.
According to the district attorney’s office, Emerick was driving a silver Chrysler 200 on Route 30 when she left her lane and crossed a grass median into oncoming westbound traffic on June 19, 2021. Emerick collided head-on at a high rate of speed with another vehicle with the Chrysler showing no signs of braking.
The crash killed a mother who was travelling with her husband and three children. Injuries were sustained by the father and children.
Family members and one of the victims spoke at the sentencing hearing and were forgiving of Emerick, but also emphasized that she now has an opportunity to change her life, according to the district attorney’s office.
How can you forgive, why would you forgive or even hope she improves HER life? She likely only cares about her time, not the woman she killed or the pain she caused. I could be wrong but even so, she does not deserve comfort without repentance.
