Police are warning that a convicted killer who escaped from a Chester County prison nearly two weeks ago now has a weapon.
Danelo Cavalcante, 34, escaped from Chester County Prison on August 31 while awaiting transfer to a state prison. Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder in 2021.
Surveillance footage from the prison shows Cavalcante climbing up a wall as part of his escape.
Sightings of Cavalcante on Saturday were reported in Phoenixville and East Pikeland Township. Cavalcante reportedly stole a van, changed his appearance, and showed up at the homes of former acquaintances. Police report that Cavalcante ditched the stolen van in a field in East Nantmeal Township.
The latest sighting of Cavalcante occurred Monday night in South Coventry Township.
Early Tuesday morning, Pennsylvania State Police posted on Facebook: “The Pennsylvania State Police are pursuing escaped convict Danelo Cavalcante in the area of Ridge Rd/Coventryville Rd/Daisy Point Rd in South Coventry Township, Chester County. Cavalcante is armed with a weapon.”
According to CNN, a man who fits Cavalcante’s description stole a gun before shots were fired during the Monday night sighting.
Chester County reported a shooting incident Monday night around 10:10 pm.
A Pennsylvania State Police press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 am to provide an update on the manhunt.
