A large Pride Progress flag was hung from the White House over the weekend, being displayed prominently between two American flags.
The flag was hung from the side of the White House overlooking the South Lawn.
“Today, the People’s House – your house – sends a clear message to the country and to the world,” President Biden tweeted on Saturday. “America is a nation of pride.”
In 2015, the Obama Administration bathed the north side of the White House in rainbow-colored light to celebrate the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.
“The pride colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and tonight, these colors celebrate a new chapter in the history of American civil rights,” a White House official said in 2015, according to Politico.
The recent hanging of the Pride Progress flag, however, is raising further concerns among some who claim that it violates the US Flag Code that mandates that the American flag is at the center of any display of flags.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said in a tweet Sunday that the display violated rules concerning the American flag.
“To advance revolutionary transgender agenda targeting children, Biden violates basic tenet of US Flag Code and disrespects every American service member buried under its colors,” wrote Fitton. “U.S. Flag Code §7. (e) The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.”
Ben Shapiro, founder of The Daily Wire, called the hanging of the Pride Progress flag part of a “sick and perverse” religious movement.
“The American flag was put aside, and the Pride Progress flag was flown put in its place,” Shapiro said on his show Monday. “This is a coup. It is a coup because, ideologically speaking, no American soldier has ever died for the Pride Progress flag.”
Christian author and apologist James White responded to Biden’s tweet: “Proud of perversion. Proud of rebellion. An extended middle finger to the sky, ‘We hate You, we hate Your ways, we dare You to bring judgment on us.’”
In another tweet on Saturday, Biden wrote, “I want to send a message to the entire community – especially to transgender children. You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong.”
