According to a report by Vice, Airbnb is banning users for being closely associated with people the short-term rental company has already banned.
The company told Vice the bans are a necessary safety precaution, and it is overly “simplistic” to suggest they are merely the result of being associated with someone.
However, in a Feb. 8 article, The Daily Wire reported that Canadian conservative YouTuber Lauren Southern announced that her parents had been banned from Airbnb for being “closely associated” with their daughter. According to The Daily Wire, Southern had been banned from Airbnb for her “Right-wing political views and was denied reinstatement when she tried to appeal.”
Southern’s parents were later reinstated, and Airbnb called it a “mistake,” according to The Daily Wire.
